COMING SOON: SAUNA

A brand-new Finnish wood sauna is coming to Frisby Lakes, beautifully crafted by Finlog and set right by the water’s edge.

Saunas have been a central part of Finnish life for over 2,000 years, offering a space to relax, recharge, and connect with nature. Often finished with a refreshing dip in cold water. Finlog specialises in building authentic timber saunas, combining traditional techniques with high-quality materials to create a truly genuine experience.

With construction now underway, we’re excited to welcome guests very soon and look forward to seeing many of you enjoying the sauna and lakeside setting.

Swimming FAQ’s

Yes – the minimum age for open water swimming at Frisby Lakes is 7 years old.

Our open water sessions are designed for fitness, training and wellbeing, offering swimmers the choice of a 200m or 500m lap course. Whether you’re building endurance, training for an event or simply enjoying the physical and mental benefits of open water swimming, our lake provides a safe and welcoming environment.

Young swimmers are very welcome, particularly those training for triathlons, swimming competitions or other endurance sports. However, they must be strong, confident swimmers who are comfortable swimming in open water and capable of completing the distance they choose.

For safety, all swimmers under the age of 16 must be accompanied in the water by a responsible adult, who must remain no more than 5 metres away from them at all times throughout the session.

Please note that our open water swimming sessions are not intended as family splash sessions or for general water play. We strive to provide a calm, respectful environment where swimmers can focus on training, fitness and wellbeing. If your child enjoys swimming laps, improving their endurance and challenging themselves in open water, they’ll be right at home at Frisby Lakes.

No. You’re welcome to join us for your first swim as a guest, so there’s no need to become a NOWCA member before you visit.

If it’s your first time, please download the actio app, register your account and select the trial swim option.

All swimmers are required to wear a tow float while swimming. If you don’t already have one, tow floats are available to hire from the café for £3, subject to availability. As these are offered on a first come, first served basis, you may wish to bring your own. Tow floats are widely available to purchase online from retailers such as Amazon or most outdoor and swimming equipment suppliers.

After your first swim, you’ll need to become a NOWCA member to continue swimming at Frisby Lakes. Membership provides access to your swim records and allows you to enjoy hundreds of NOWCA venues across the UK.

Yes! You’re welcome to bring a guest along to experience open water swimming at Frisby Lakes.

Your guest doesn’t need to be a NOWCA member for their first visit but they’ll need to complete the same registration process as any first-time swimmer and receive a safety briefing before entering the water.

After their first swim, guests will need to become a NOWCA member if they wish to continue swimming at Frisby Lakes or other participating venues.

No – Regular bookings can only be made online

Frisby Lakes is a NOWCA (Open Water Swimming) venue, which means all regular swimmers are required to register with NOWCA after their first swim.

NOWCA membership helps us provide a safe and enjoyable swimming experience by recording your swims, managing your bookings and ensuring all swimmers have completed the necessary registration and safety information before entering the water.

As a NOWCA member, you’ll also benefit from:

  • Recording your swim distances, times and personal achievements.
  • Access to hundreds of NOWCA open water swimming venues across the UK.
  • A simple digital check-in and check-out process each time you visit.
  • Access to the ACTiO app, where you can manage your membership, bookings and view your swim history.
  • Personal accident insurance as part of your membership, including cover while travelling to and from approved NOWCA activities. Full details, policy terms and levels of cover are available on the NOWCA website.

If you’ve never visited us before, don’t worry—you can enjoy your first swim as a guest. Simply register via the actio app and book a trial swim. If you decide to come back (and we hope you do!), you’ll need to become a NOWCA member before your next swim.

Yes. All swimmers at Frisby Lakes are required to wear a tow float while in the water.

Tow floats are an important safety aid, making swimmers more visible to lifeguards and other water users. They also provide buoyancy should you need to stop and rest during your swim. While they are not a lifesaving device, they are an essential part of our safety procedures and help us maintain a safe environment for everyone on the lake.

If you don’t have your own tow float, you can hire one from the café for £3. Please note that hire floats are available on a first come, first served basis, so we recommend bringing your own if you swim regularly. Tow floats are widely available from swimming and outdoor retailers, as well as online.

For the safety of all swimmers, you will not be permitted to enter the water without a tow float.

It depends on the event.

Events booked through NOWCA are exclusive to NOWCA members and cannot be attended by guest swimmers. This includes events such as our Around the Island Swim and Wild Swim sessions.

However, events organised directly by Frisby Lakes are often open to everyone, including guests. This includes many of our charity swims, fundraising events and other special occasions where booking is made directly with Frisby Lakes or on the day.

If you’re unsure whether an event is open to guests, simply check the event details or get in touch with our team before booking. We’ll be happy to let you know whether the event is open to guest swimmers or requires a NOWCA membership.
